March 12, 2024

We are already in the fourth week of Lent.   Daily Savings Time has begun.   St. Patrick's Day, the first day of spring and Easter will be along soon.   Winter rains, overcast days and long nights will quickly transform into spring sunshine and the bursting forth of life all around us.

Accordingly, our readings for this coming Sunday are all about transformation.

Jeremiah 31:31-13 "Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah . . . I will put my law within them, and I will write it upon their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

John 12:23-32 And Jesus answered them, "The hour has come for the Son of man to be glorified. Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.  He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.”

Also accordingly we have a clean-up day coming up this coming Saturday, March 16. You are welcome to come for any amount of time. Do not worry if you are too sore to do anything. Just show up, provide moral support and enjoy lunch with us afterward, at about noon.

We have a Church Council meeting after Church this Sunday, the 17th.

We have one new member.  Two new people wandered in the door yesterday. How can each of us share the good news about our congregation, that we are surviving, even thriving? We are using social media, Facebook, San Carlos Patch and the church web page pretty well already. New members arrive mostly by word of mouth.  The quality of worship and the welcome of the congregation is what keeps them coming back.

The Church premises were tidied up over the weekend.   The various flowers and bushes will burst into life into the next couple of weeks.   Please stop by to take a look and, of course, come on Sunday morning and stay for worship.

I will be away in Big Sur for part of the week, but will be back Friday and look forward to our community work day on Saturday.
