Coming Together to Give Mahany Hall a Freshening Up

August 1st, 2018

On Saturday and Sunday July 21-22, 2018 members from Fully Alive Community Church, Faith in Action, San Carlos Lions Club and JM Social & Service Club and a couple of Community United Church of Christ in San Carlos members came together to give the Mahany Hall Ladies and Men’s restrooms a fresh coat of paint. It was long tedious work as those rooms had not seen a coat of paint for decades. We thank everyone for their generosity of time and energy so that all may enjoy Mahany Hall even more.

Mike Crook, confined but smiling
Steve Rogers, “This is fun?!”
Cynthia Hinestroza, “Let’s get organized.”

Scot Marsters,“We’re going to need…”
Tim King, Nick Marino, Angela Harper-Peterson, “Crowded but we’re used to working together in close quarters.”
Virginia Silverman, but she escaped before we could take her picture.

Nanetter Elaine (front right), “I think it needs another coat.”
Jo and Tom Kimura, “The sink drain needs a bit of cleaning out too!”

THANK YOU EVERYONE!

Redevelopment Project Summer Update

June 15th, 2018

Redevelopment Project –
In our February 2018 Communicator we expressed hope that our project would be completed and we could move into our new space in late April or early May! Such was not the case. Like the Steve Jobs Space Center project down in Silicon Valley which took all the trees on the market so there was scarcity for other landscape projects, it was shortage of workers and cement for us. At the slightest hiccup, sub-contract workers are quick to move on to other construction jobs, and there are many to choose from right in our own back yard. But patience we must have as God has his own design and timing, the big picture that we don’t see.

Still there’s been much progress made since February in our Sanctuary and Parsonage/Multi-Use building. Pedestrians still stop and stare. Church visitors smile as they gauge when they might return to see the finished product. We hope you will be one of them.

Religious life continues –
We continue to hold our Sunday worship services in Mahany Hall at noon. We’ve been blessed with a corp of substitute preachers: Pastor Tauoa Head, Rev. Ken Iha, Rev. Gerry Brague, Rev. Wendy Summers, Rev. Dr. LaTaunya Bynum and Rev. Ruth Sandburg (who will be with us 6/24/18). Strange that we refer to them as “Pulpit Supply!”

Women’s Fellowship continue to meet on the second Tuesday of the month between 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. for bag lunch, scripture readings/stories and group sharing. It is bonding time!

Once we catch our breath, we will resume Bible study/Spiritual study and discussion. If you have specific thoughts or interest, we would love to hear from you. For now, please email to [email protected] and your message will be forwarded to the appropriate person (see below re Intentional Interim Minister).

Music, music, music

June 13th, 2018

We have been blessed with the musical performances of pianists Easther Ng, Kaori DeNoia and Ann Willard who by the rhythm of each note and chord for each hymn, we are able to feel and express the acknowledgement of the Divine in our lives. We are in search for a permanent musician but this is best finalized after our Intentional Interim Minister arrives.

Intentional Interim Minister

June 12th, 2018

If you are receiving this Communicator, you would have also received our announcement of the day when Rev. Dr. Wendy Jaine Summers came to preach at our Sunday worship. It was also the designated day for the Special Congregational Meeting to vote on the acceptance of her as Intentional Interim Minister so that we may move to the next phase which is the actual Call. By now you would have received the positive outcome of the vote and that she will be on board possibly late July but scheduled for early August. We will indeed celebrate then.
